Young children ages 4-6 will get a hands-on introduction to ponies,
with riding lessons. Lessons are taught by an experienced Wildwind instructor,
and each student is escorted by a Wildwind student helper.
The goal is to teach the children how to control their ponies, learn to walk, trot,
and do a posting trot. The ponies are carefully chosen for their good nature, calmness,
and quiet disposition. All of the ponies are owned by Wildwind and are specifically
trained for beginners. Wildwind has over 45 horses and ponies so there is always a
mount available for every child.
Each week, students learn more about horses by participating in games, grooming
and saddling, horse safety and craft activities. Miniature horses are used to
teach our Tiny Tots to groom, tack and lead their ponies. These small horses are
just the right size for the children to do their own work.
The Tiny Tots program consists of either a weekly class session, or a one-week summer
camp. Tiny Tots is fun and exciting, and the kids can sign up for as many sessions as
they want. When able to ride independently, they can move on to the Tiny Tots 2
program for further English riding instruction.
Tiny Tots 2 is a continuation of Tiny Tots, only now the students ride
independently. Students will learn more riding skills as they learn to control their
ponies at the walk, trot and posting trot. Games, obstacle courses, interaction with
other children and age appropriate learning techniques will be used to keep the
children having fun while they learn to ride. In the Tiny Tots 2 program, the
-entire class is spent on riding.
For a safe, fun, introduction to ponies, Tiny Tots and Tiny Tots 2 is a great
program for your 4-6 year old child.
The Tiny Tots program was recently awarded a service mark from the State of
Michigan as a unique children’s riding program.
